Increase in Support for Schools from LCR Apprenticeship Hub

The LCR Apprenticeship Hub team has been very active over the last month, supporting individual schools and working with partners to implement and promote projects designed to inform and help pupils gain awareness of career choices including Apprenticeships.

iCan Skill Show

LCR Apprenticeship Hub is working in association with Windmills and ESFA to promote a unique project for schools.  The project gives schools the opportunity to put on an inspirational free skills show to their pupils aged 15 and over.  The iCan Skill Show format can be adapted for different schools and gives them the structure and tools to introduce their pupils to a fresh approach to careers guidance, enabling them to develop a personalised pathway to achieve their aspirations.  Notably, the project is intrinsically linked to Apprenticeships and vocational training opportunities in Liverpool City Region’s key economic growth areas.

Schools can find out more about the project and register their interest by emailing admin@windmillsonline.co.uk

Open The Door

LCR Apprenticeship Hub has commissioned a local theatre-in-education company to deliver a series of short performances about Apprenticeships and Traineeships, demonstrating that they are a high quality option with currency in the labour market.  The plays are thought-provoking, motivational and interactive.

Performances are being offered free of charge to schools across Liverpool City Region, and can be adapted for pupil or parent audiences.  Those interested in booking a performance should contact samantha.metcalfe@halton.gov.uk  or  sara.drury@halton.gov.uk  for further information.

 Apprenticeships Support and Knowledge Programme

LCR Apprenticeship Hub member, Greater Merseyside Learning Providers Federation (GMLPF) is offering Apprenticeship information sessions to local schools as part of the national Apprenticeships Support and Knowledge (ASK) programme.  Funded by ESFA, the project works with teachers, careers advisers, parents and governors, alongside other key partners, to support schools and ensure that they meet their statutory duties regarding the provision of impartial IAG, specifically in relation to Apprenticeships and Traineeships.

The Apprenticeship information sessions on offer include group assemblies, sessions to sign students up to Find An Apprenticeship, Apprenticeship application workshops for smaller groups of students, and attendance at careers events.  This is a free service for schools. For further information or to book a session, contact ayesha@gmlpf.net

 Forthcoming Activities

Upcoming schools support activity for the LCR Apprenticeship Hub team includes attending careers events and doing mock interviews with pupils at South Wirral High School and The Heath School in Halton; providing information on higher and degree level Apprenticeships at Belvedere School careers fair; delivering Apprenticeships presentations at Mosslands High School and De La Salle; and providing one-to-one IAG support to year 13 students at Rainhill High in St Helens.  We will also be attending a careers fair at St Helens Academy, and conducting year 11 mock interviews at Lord Derby Academy in Knowsley as well as attending a year 10 parents evening.
