St Helens Chamber Jobs Fair helps local people into employment
The St Helens Chamber Jobs Fair, held at the Mercure hotel on 30th August, welcomed over 75 people through the door to find out about training and employment opportunities available through St Helens Chamber.
All the people attending had the opportunity to speak to a Chamber Career Coach about their options. Following these conversations a larger number secured interviews for training and Apprenticeship programmes with St Helens Chamber, including Fast-Track to Apprenticeship courses in areas such as Construction, Hairdressing and a course in Interactive Media, Digital Marketing and Sales.
Oliver Eddleston attended a previous Jobs Fair and as a result secured an Apprenticeship with local manufacturing company, Chalon Components.
He said: “I went to the jobs fair to find out more about Apprenticeships. I spoke to Sean from the Chamber’s Construction Training Centre who explained what kinds of Apprenticeships were on offer and the qualities that were required.
“I then spent a couple of weeks at the training centre in Parr before starting my Apprenticeship.”
The Jobs Fair also seven more graduates have secure a place on The Chamber’s Graduate Hub. This programme funded by the European Social Fund, provides an opportunity for graduates to add essential skills to their CV, making them more attractive to employers and gain exclusive access to local graduate positions. These skills include social media, online marketing and health and safety, as well as interview techniques and help with building a CV.
Chamber Career Coaches also had a number of discussions with people aged over 19, and were able to offer attendees a place on a range of free short courses, all designed to help people brush up on their existing skills and develop new ones. St Helens Chamber’s ‘New Skills’ courses cover a wide range of subjects from gel nails and spray tanning to basic construction.
St Helens Chamber is committed to helping local people develop the skills they need to be successful in the workplace.
