Have A Go activities

With over 100 Have a Go activties at the event, there will be a range of different career opportunities to try, focussed on practical activities linked to specific job roles for pupils to try their hand at. Here are a few examples of the Have A Go activities on offer:

 

Fitness Testing
Have a go at using special testing equipment to measure your own fitness. Then compare your results to national averages and to the results of world stars!

People are increasingly joining gyms and taking up exercise in the UK. Combined with this is an increasing need to ensure we stay fit and healthy for longer – so see how fit you are and ask our experts what career opportunities are available in the fitness and health sector.

‘Gearing Up with Getrag’

Have a go at assembling gear components in test conditions, with the best scores being recorded and a prize given for the overall winner. This is the same test of manual dexterity Getrag use to recruit their own Apprentices. You can speak to some of those Apprentices when you visit to find out more about a career in Advanced Manufacturing.

Water Cycle Ball Race

One of the region’s largest employees, United Utilities runs a massive operation, 24 hours a day 365 days a year.  In the North West they provide 3 million households and 200,000 businesses an incredible 2,000 million litres of clean, clear water each day (that’s a lot of brews!).  And take it all away again, treating it so it’s safe to go back into rivers too. Company employees including recent Apprentices will be on hand to tell you about the wide range of benefits gained from choosing a career with United Utilities. And why not have a go at racing a ball through a moving sphere through obstacles within the water cycle.

Simulation: achieving the right PH levels
A laptop simulation to control the mixing and transfer of liquids from two holding tanks containing different PH levels. The ‘operator’ will be required to control the flow from both tanks to achieve a required resulting PH level and quantity of product to a waiting road tanker.
